There are various reasons why you may decide that you want to move to the UK; however, for many people, the main reason they do so is due to work or to further their career.

Moving to the UK and finding somewhere to live is one thing, but you also need to make sure that you have a job. If you have already been offered a job (hence the move), then this is one thing, but what if you haven’t already found yourself a job when you move to the UK?

To help you out, we have put together our top tips on how to get your first job in the UK.

Get your CV reviewed

Your CV is a crucial part of the job application process. It shows the potential recruiter your experiences whether you have the right skills or not and previous roles to match what they are looking for.

You will want to make sure that your CV stands out and gives you the best chance of being approved for your chosen job, which means that it makes sense to have an expert check it over for you.

This is where CV review services can help you; they will be able to check through the CV that you have created and ensure that it is written and presented in the best light possible. A good CV helps you beat the ATS (Applicant Tracking System) filters and maximise the chances of your CV being seen by a hiring manager.

Use job boards

Once your CV is set up and ready to go, you will want to start looking for actual jobs. It can be hard to know where to start, but job boards online are a great idea. These are designed to easily search for whatever type of role you are looking for, find out where they are, and how much they pay.

You can also use these job boards to apply for your chosen roles, send through your CV, and see if you get called up for an interview.

Get used to the differences in recruitment

Many job seekers moving to the UK realise that there are some critical differences in recruitment than in other countries. Of course, applying for jobs, being interviewed and then being offered the job is much the same, but some key differences will be good to know about.

An example of this is how highly involved recruiters are in recruiting someone compared to in other countries. Having them around is more of a help than you may realise, as they can offer support and guidance through the process of looking for and securing a new job.

The only thing left to do is start your job hunt for a job in the UK. Hopefully, taking these first few steps will be all you need to get your career started and move in the right direction.
