If you are someone who is looking for work in the UK, then you are not alone. Many people want to take either the first steps (or to change their career path completely) and believe that the UK is the right place to do this.

Finding a job in the UK may seem straightforward enough, but there are lots of things that you will need to think about focusing on to make sure that you are working legally and that you can secure the job you are looking for.

The main thing must be your right to work and application for visas, and this could come in the form of securing sponsorship to allow you to work in the UK.

These opportunities were called Tier 2 jobs, they were opportunities that you can apply for within licensed companies, which would allow you to work in the UK and branch out in your career. Now rebranded under ‘Skilled Worked Visa’, it has recently become much easier for most companies to get a sponsorship license.

Before we start looking at how to secure sponsorship, you should know that you are not alone, and you will need to make sure that you get ahead of the crowd if you want to be able to celebrate securing your dream job.

Always try to apply early

It is always a good idea to try and get any employment application in as early as possible. Sure, there will be a closing date that you need to focus on but getting your application in early will put your mind at rest and shows that you are keen to be considered for the role. You may want to check job ads posted recently in the last 24 hours or the last week etc.

Know where you are applying to

You should always take the time to research into what industries you want to work in, and which companies will be right for you to apply to. If you are not sure where to start looking, then you will be pleased to know that there are online agencies and search engines which are designed with just this type of need in mind, allowing you to search for the exact kinds of jobs that you want and making it all the easier to apply for too. Reviewing a company’s website and their employees in similar roles on social platforms like LinkedIn might give you a good idea about what type of people work there and what type of culture/work environment the company provides.

Learn about the process

As well as taking the time to learn more about what you want to do with your career (and where you are going to be best placed to find a role) you also should make sure that you understand the process.

Applying for jobs in the UK is different to applying for jobs elsewhere in the world. This means that you need to think about what you will need to do, what documentation you need to provide, and how long you can expect the entire process to last from start to finish.

After getting your CV in the right format in line with the market expectations in the UK, you will need to commit considerable time to review tons of opportunities on several platforms. In addition to LinkedIn, you can also check platforms like Indeed, Reed, Workinstartups, Cv-library, JobServe etc.

You should always be realistic about what the timescales will look like and how long things will take before you can start your new job in the UK.

Hopefully, these tips have helped you figure out what you need to do to get yourself your head start here in the UK and get your career where you want it to be.
